St. Louis Blues go for third straight win over San Jose Sharks in Game 4

The St. Louis Blues have rallied from a series-opening loss to take a 2-1 lead heading into Game 4 of its opening round Western Conference playoff matchup against the San Jose Sharks. Many were surprised when the No. 7 seed Sharks pulled off a double-overtime win to open the series, but St. Louis has resumed its role as the favorite with two consecutive wins. St. Louis won Game 2 by three goals and had a three-goal lead late in the third period of Game 3 until the Sharks made it more interesting late. The Blues are the No. 2 seed in the West and one of the main contenders to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals, but San Jose has the home ice advantage in this contest and is desperate to win this one and even up the series when it heads back to St. Louis.

Odds to Win the 2012 Stanley Cup

The St. Louis Blues had the best goals against average in the NHL during the regular season and have found that groove again in the past two games. If leading point scorer David Backes and Co. can continue to score three or four goals per game, the Blues will be in great shape in Game 4. The San Jose Sharks were second in the NHL in power play percentage during the regular season, and will need center Joe Thornton and his teammates to capitalize in those situations, because the Blues are playing well defensively. San Jose did score two goals late in Game 3 and will look to ride that momentum into Game 4, but can dig itself such a hole this time around.

The Blues entered the postseason as the No. 2 seed in the West, but could soon be the top seed left because No. 1 Vancouver is down 3-0 in its series heading into Wednesday’s Game 4 against the Kings. If St. Louis can win Game 4 in San Jose, it sets itself up very well to control this series the rest of the way and wrap it up at home in Game 5. However, the Sharks pulled off the Game 1 upset on the road and will look to tie this series back up at 2 when the teams face off on Thursday in NHL betting.
